The Black Keys @ ACC
March 14, 2012 | Air Canada Center, Toronto
This was one of the best sounding concerts I have ever been to. Standing right up against the stage is a treat, allowing the real sound from the amplifiers and drum kit to hit your ears with no noise in between – noise from the huge Air Canada Centre sound system, which at times is inevitably filled with echoes and too much treble. My good buddies Devin and Ben got right up close to ground-zero with me, about three human beings from the row of bouncers.
The National @ ACC
December 9, 2011 | Air Canada Center, Toronto
Whenever Matt Berninger of The National sings, I always picture him sitting in a den in his favourite chair by a dying fire, a half-empty glass of whiskey in hand, his tired eyes and unkempt beard a stark contrast from the clean, wrinkle-free suit he wears. He sits me down, hands me a glass, and with a deep voice full of sorrow, begins to tell me the tale of his weary soul.
k-os @ The Starlight
December 8, 2011 | The Starlight, Waterloo, Ontario
This morning I woke up and couldn’t turn my head either way. Had I been frozen the night before in a carbonite prison? No, I was at the k-os concert at Starlight giving myself whiplash with the ridiculous head-banging I was doing. It was that kind of concert and I can’t imagine it any other way.
Gary Clark Jr. – The Bright Lights EP
Release Date: August 8, 2011
I came across Gary Clark Jr. in the lamest way possible: Facebook advertisements. I think it recommended him because I’ve ‘liked’ The Black Keys or something of the sort. Though, after my experience with clicking one of these ads and being introduced to the lovely Cults, I thought I’d give him a chance.
Ben Howard – Keep Your Head Up
The video starts with the young Ben Howard laboring at seemingly unrelated tasks: hauling hay, filling buckets of water, unloading a truck. All the while, and maybe going unnoticed, bubbles are floating around in the scenes. We are left with beautiful shots of the countryside and his reflective lyrics to flood our senses.
